100 Tips – 200 Words – 300 Days

Jun 05, 2011 2 Comments by

This week we’re starting a new series on theBigRocks called “100 Tips for Change Agents” and we will need your help!  We’re looking for suggestions to help Change Agents as they tackle organizational change challenges of all sizes, types and dimensions.

Here’s My Part: Here are my three guiding principles as keeper of the list:

  1. 100 Tips.
  2. 200 Words.
  3. 300 Days.

We’ll limit the list to 100 ideas. I’ll write up each tip in a brief post that fits on a single screen (roughly 200 words or less).  I’ll commit to posting them all over the next 300 days.  That sounds easy enough…

Here’s Your Part: If you’ve ever experienced something that worked so well that you’d encourage other Change Agents to try it – or you’ve seen something that totally did NOT work which Change Agents should avoid at all costs – we want to hear from you!

To submit an idea, simply:

  1. Comment on this post or click the “Contact Steve” link in the title bar of the website to fill out a little form. (No worries; it takes less than a minute).
  2. Share as much or as little as you feel comfortable sharing.
  3. Click <submit>.

Your story, suggestion or experience can be about things like:

  • Communication that worked well or flopped.
  • A change that was inspiring or overwhelming.
  • Dynamic Training approaches or techniques that wasted people’s time.
  • Sponsorship for Change that was awesome or absent.
  • Change Agent behaviors that you’ve seen generate momentum or stalemate.
  • Good, bad and ugly ways to handle stakeholder resistance.
  • You can even submit a question and we can use the answer as a tip.
  • …and so on…  … any topic, any story – as long as it’s about change.

That’s it!  It will be great to hear your experiences, suggestions, and stories as we create the list, so click away and watch for the series to start this week!

My biggest lesson learned as a Change Agent: Be Consistent!

Our team started off in one direction, then changed too much of what we were focused on and lost track of our vision. (it was a technical project of course) If we had it to do again, we would have written down a list of what was part of the change and stuck to it. As new ideas popped up (and they always do), we could make them part of a follow-up project. It all worked out in the end, but we probably made it harder than it needed to be.

    Hindsight is 20/20, right?
